NOLA is the only city I’ve ever visited that I thought “I could live here.” Something about that vibe.
Never been. You hear widely-divergent opinions about the city. Something to do with non-stop parties.
We stayed in a nice section, so my perspective is skewed, I’m sure. The breakfast menu included the breakfast drink specials. There was a 24 hr (I think) bar around the corner. At least they were still open at 5:30 am. A guy in the Burger King at 5:30 am was drinking a Miller High Life with his food.
Forgetting the party scene, the WWII museum was incredible. We only had about three hours to see it, so we literally ran in places to see as much as possible. You could spend three days there and still not take it all in. What a place.
Okay, we’re going there, just for the WWII museum. Seriously, that’s right up my touristy alley. I’m pretty much all partied-out. My wife drinks only Lipton Plain-Ass Tea. She likes a good museum and a bit of history.

Thanks! Went out for dinner at our local joint. And brought back a cheeseburger for our dog. She had a house sitter while we were gone and wasn’t happy about it. 🙄
My dog(s) are all effed-up, from the two weeks of my daughter’s hospitalization, and my wife’s nightly sleepovers at the hospital during the worst of it, which was almost all of it. The animals have real feelings and habits, like us bipedal can-openers and treat-lords. George and Henry slept on me on the couch, for most of this trip. Now they won’t let the wimmensk out of their sight. I’m chopped liver. 😆

I was so caught up in the moment I ordered a white jersey with @98 and Bedard’s name. I have never worn a jersey with a players name but he’s the exception.
Additionally I pray he wear 98 like he did last year in juniors or my white jersey will be a white elephant.

I have a friend from my local tavern ( Prior Marine) who worked at the time as one of those security contractors. He was on the Iraqi Presidential detail for a time. -The Embassy has a Marine Guard detachment. The consulate has only locally hired security who evaporated at the first trouble. Why was Stevens there on Sept. 11? To open a school, or buy back guns? Either way incredibly stupid.
– The CIA annex security WERE told to stand down. They went anyway.
Things I found out on my own.
– They had intelligence that something was up in Benghazi from the Brit SAS,,,in Benghazi. Think an SAS team could have made a difference?
– Sigonella, Sicily airbase, a logistics base is 450 miles away. There are at least 2 other airbases in Italy. A logistical base pretty much has everything. Within an hour of Benghazi. All the firepower and support you would need on an airplane in minutes. They could have had an F-16 on station in less than an hour with refueling tankers and troop support right behind.
Clinton lied about everything to cover up her own incompetence.
She got 4 men killed and risked the killing of 20 more.

My late Ma Poteen did some geneology work to trace her family history. Turns out her Great Great Grandfar got off a ship in New York with wife and kids in 1850, fresh from years of famine and and a few warrants for Irish Republican activity. She traced them back to the Irish county they were from before the trail went cold.
Forward to the labor union fights of the early 1900s. My Grandfar Poteen was in the Brakemens Rail Union. The Industrial Workers of the World, IWW was trying to consolidate all of the different unions into one. They were formed by the same group that formed the Communist Party of the USA. Big Bill Haywood, James Connolly, Mary ‘Mother’ Jones and Eugene Debs among them. They generally failed at their union organizing. They got too violent and the trade unions went other ways.
Haywood ran to the Soviet Union and is buried in the Kremlin.
Connolly went back to his Irish birthplace in 1910 to agitate for Irish Independence with his old Republican buddies Sean McDermott and Roger Casement to name a few. They were among the 8 men shot by the English for the Easter Uprising in 1916. In reading the accounts I discovered that Sean McDermott was from the same place as Great Great Granfar Poteen McDermott. Same county, same clan. Same attitude to the English. Likely distant cousins. That same attitude led my Granfar in 1917 to leave his pregnant German wife and march off to fight the Kaiser a year later. The same Kaiser that Casement, Connolly and McDermott were trying to buy weapons from.
King Charlie and Harry? In 1916 someone related to them ordered the execution of someone distantly related to me. In 1979 the IRA blew up King Charlie’s favorite grand uncle Louis Mountbatten. Been pretty quiet since then.

No, I’ve never been to the Congo. Casement was one of the Irishmen executed in 1916 with my likely distant relative. His life was short and very interesting. Lots of humanitarian work in Congo and Peru for the Brits. Then revolution and execution.
He’s the guy who exposed the Belgian King’s butchery in the Congo. While in Africa he traveled with Joseph Conrad, who wrote “Heart of Darkness”, which was the basis for Francis Ford Coppolla’s Apocalypse Now.
