So, it’s been a week. Younger daughter has been in hospital all week with emergency gallbladder surgery, which included a bad infection, severe pancreatitis, and loads of pain. The surgery went well, but the pain is lingering – they have her on IV Dilaudid, but now they’re weaning her off that so she can go home. Wife has been with her most of the time, including nights. So, I’m handling all the non-hospital duties, and visiting several times a day.
Talk later about the history of this crapola episode. Right now, I need a drink.

Everyday a little bit better, but the pain from the inflamed pancreas is a real bitch. It’s a process, waiting for it to heal. They’re weaning her off the Dilaudid, onto oral meds, so she can go home soon. Monday is the target day, now. Oy fucking vey! The poor kid has been through the wringer. I will tell her story of medical mayhem when I have some composure again. It’s a cautionary tale.
On the lighter side, a guy on her floor decided to make a break for it last night, totally nude and hollering, “Get me out of here!” He was right outside her room, at about 1am, when he decided it was time to go. He was having a reaction to the pain meds, himself, or so the nurse said today.

A person who maybe had pre-existing medical conditions and may have an abnormal amount of happy drugs in his system, but it is MURDER!!!!!!!
New rules I would enforce is that before a person is restrained they should have a full medical evaluation. Xrays, CAT scans, a full body MRI and DNA testing for genetic abnormalities.
Then a blood draw and a full tox screen.
That will take about a couple of weeks. If the person who is threatening others comes back negative on all tests then it is OK to restrain him/her

Same thing happened in the San Diego County Jail 30 years ago. Deputies brought in a 20 year old guy for being under the influence of drugs. Uncuffed him and put him in the holding cell for booking. Then the PCP kicked in. Took 6 deputies to get him down and they had to use the carotid hold on him. He died. Coroner said the drugs were the cause. Family said “Choke hold”. The news showed a picture of a skinny, smiling teenager about 14. Not the 6’2″, 325 pound Samoan who put 4 of the 6 deputies in the hospital with injuries from bruising to broken bones. Family made 4M off the county.
Our southern border is a disaster.
