Charles Johnson’s GoFundMeasle

Up in smoke is where their money goes.

Yeah, that’s a graph of actual and cumulative donations from data burgled from Charles Johnson’s own begging bowl, spanning June 2015 through March 2020. Except for an initial windfall of $2,583 in June, there hasn’t been a lot of activity. After 4 years and 7 months, the big boy has garnered just over 53% of his goal of $20K. BTW, I didn’t add the “smoke.” Excel did.

Here are the monthly totals (sans the June 2015 outlier). The unusual bumps in donations are a mystery, but the months with no donations whatever are no surprise.

Some folks here (including me) suspected that Charles has been priming his pump by taking his winnings and plowing them back into the fund for appearances. Breaking out the “anonymous” donors from the rest doesn’t prove the theory, and there’s not a lot of correlation.

Many or most of the anonymous donors could be legit, but they can’t be vetted – only Charles can do that because GoFundMe ID’s contributors and allows the host access. (The host can also edit the donors’ love notes as we’ve noted previously.)

GoFundMe also does something else: they charge fees. The going rate is 2.9% plus $0.30 per donation. As of 31 March 2020, Chuck’s begging bowl contained $10,615.00, so
[($10,615 x .029) + (237 donations x $0.30 per)] = $378.94 that he won’t get.

Oh yeah, almost forgot:

Happy 67th Girthday, Charles!

The Little Green Footballs ALEXA Report January 2020

It’s fun to plunge into the ALEXA statistical statistics occasionally to see how Charles Johnson’s Little Green Footballs is recovering from the plummet that began around 2008.

https://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/littlegreenfootballs.com

With the exception of a few unusual spikes in traffic, the decline has been steady, and the past 90 days is no exception.

In July 2008, Little Green Footballs clocked in at about 15,500 on Alexa website rankings.

ALEXA & Charles Johnson’s Traffic Manipulation

Occasionally The BRC checks the Little Green Footballs ALEXA Statistics, and there appears to be an anomaly in the fabric of the futon vortex. Something happened on 20 September 2019 that gave Charles Johnson’s Little Green Footballs a significant bump in traffic.

According to ALEXA, in less than two months (52 days) LGF traffic increased by an astounding 143%. Did Charles Johnson post breaking news? No. Did he increase the number of headline posts on his front page? Yes. Does clicking on the LGF front page automatically tally all posts on the front page as having been read? Yes.

Compare today’s graph with this one from 25 September 2014:

In other words, Charles Johnson’s Little Green Footballs was ranked by Alexa at -73K in September 2014, and as of December 2019 it’s at -307K.

That’s some impressive work, Charles.

Charles Johnson’s Success Continues

In our last episode, Charles Johnson’s Little Green Footballs status was still plummeting into the abyss according the Alexa blog ranking service, and the decline declined even more between the time the decline was recorded and the post was posted. Pure awesome.

What the hell, let’s do it again!

And the trend continues.

So we plugged www.LittleGreenFootballs.com into WorthOfWeb to see what mountain of gold Johnson might be sitting on. The answer is: “it ain’t much.” Actually it’s even less.

On 09 February 2011, we screencapped this:

Now, 8-1/2 years later:

This inflation calculator says $45K in 2011 = $52K in 2019 dollars.

In other words, Charles Johnson’s once profitable website has lost about 63 percent in value since February 2011. Just think of what he could have earned had he cashed out before he went scooters.

WINNING!

Has Little Green Footballs’ Traffic Bottomed Out? (I dunno, Babs, but I do know this.)

Last time we checked (19 May 2019) Little Green Footballs was in adjustment mode after an inexplicable spike followed by a sharp decline in traffic. The Alexa graph seems to suggest that Charles’ drop in popularity has subsided somewhat, and now he’s gliding (instead of plummeting) downhill. Little Green Footblobs is at the lowest ranking since July 2018, and for comparison, LGF was within the 80,000 range in July 2014:

“Gee, Barry! Howdja screw that up?!”

BTW, longtime LGF Lizard-Lapper Alouette aka @ViciousBabushka is on Day 16 in #TwitterGulag. If anyone has a screen cap of her offending Tweet, please forward it. Inquiring minds want to know.

UPDATE! WITHIN JUST HOURS OF THIS POSTING, ALEXA UPDATED THE LGF RANKING! HERE ARE THE CURRENT STATS:

Watching The Defectives

Wow. We’re second behind wonkette? I’m surprised she hasn’t left the country and moved into a luxury closet in Bernie’s chalet in St. Petersburg. Meanwhile, Little Green Footballs has continued its slide in popularity, and of those 64K+ more popular blogs in the US, there are undoubtedly a significant number that post nothing more than cute cat videos and salad recipes.

Meanwhile, we need to address the graph. For some reason Alexa skews the vertical axis, but we’re happy to correct the anomaly.

Good job, Charles. We love ya, man.

Charles Johnson’s Little Green Footballs Continues On Its Predestined & Predictable Trajectory.

Dateline 15 October 2017. From Alexa we get this nice graph:

Not sure why LGF gets traffic from Sweden. Perhaps some are keeping tabs on him after his documented influence on Anders Breivik and Norway’s Oslo Massacre.

Now let’s look at that Alexa traffic graph. It’s certainly bad news for Little Green Footballs, but assuming the graph is accurate, the reality is even worse. Note that the y-axis bars are not evenly spaced. Without the actual statistics, we can graphically re-space the y-axis, keep the x-axis untouched and get closer to the truth of the decline:

The buttcrack on the far right of the x-axis represents 1 October 2017. The blue line gets fuzzy vertically because it needed stretch pants, and in a week or so we’re going to see if Charles Johnson remembers something he forgot.
